PRESS RELEASE
MINISTRY OF DIGITAL TO CONTINUE SUPPORTING INDIAN COMMUNITY, INCLUDING DURING THAIPUSAM
Prime Minister’s visit to Batu Caves underscores commitment to Malaysia MADANI
I would like to extend my greetings to the Hindu community in Malaysia who will celebrate Thaipusam next Tuesday (February 11, 2025). The celebration is seen as a symbol of the uniqueness of our beloved nation.
During my visit to Batu Caves earlier today, I met Hindu devotees who were already fulfilling their vows. I was told that some of them had started as early as two weeks before Thaipusam.
Our Prime Minister, YAB Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also visited Batu Caves today, emphasised his commitment to build a united country, in line with the Malaysia MADANI spirit.
During his visit, Dato' Seri Anwar held discussions with Tan Sri R. Nadarajah, the Chairman of the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Devasthanam Kuala Lumpur (SMMTD KL) Committee, as well as other committee members.
In their discussions, the Prime Minister said that the Federal Government would collaborate with the Selangor Government to assist in addressing issues raised by the temple committee. This includes facilitating the construction of a new hall that will serve as a community centre.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Digital will provide two giant digital screens at the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Temple in George Town, Penang. This is to allow people to follow the progress of the Thaipusam celebrations there. I will also be joining in the celebration at the temple.
Throughout 2024, the Ministry of Digital has extended assistance to temples, Indian associations, and Tamil schools nationwide. These are part of the Ministry of Digital's initiatives to support the Indian community in Malaysia, in line with the Government's ongoing commitment to celebrate diversity and harmony among Malaysians.
In addition, the Ministry of Digital is determined to ensure that the Indian community, including small and medium business owners (SMEs) and our youth, are not left behind in booming digital economy.
We hope that such initiatives will further elevate the socio-economic status of the Indian community in Malaysia. The Ministry of Digital would like to congratulate the small traders who are using digital tools while to sell their products during Thaipusam.
I hope this awareness will continue to grow, and that more and more traders will use digital platforms to elevate their businesses.
In conjunction with Thaipusam this year, the Ministry of Digital will also provide free bottled water, and food for the devotees at Batu Caves.
